ROCKLINES: A GEOPOETIC PROJECT FOR THE MINETT UNESCO BIOSPHERE
Rocklines. A Journey Through Minett, The Sea Of Red Rocks is the new geopoetic project created from an idea of Luxembourg’s natural scientist Robert Weis of Musée National d’Historie Naturelle . This idea started to take shape in the summer of 2020 when, after his long and thorough exploration of the Minett (formerly a mining area) region, that in 2020 has been recognized as UNESCO Biosphere. In this 200 kmq area, the Minett Biosphere Reserve’s core area encompasses green valleys, sunny plateaus, vast woods, beautiful cliffs, many hiking trails and country roads, all highlighted in the shining beauty of his ancient red rocks. Watercourses and their immediate environment (banks, wet meadows, reed beds, alluvial forests) form connecting corridors between distant biotopes each other and provide a diverse habitat for of many animal and plant species. The mix of natural aspects and mining history, urbanization (11 are the small towns of Minett) created a landscape that lends itself to a geopoetic interpretation. And that is precisely what the Rocklines project is about. And here we will walk and work to come up with a “geopoetic journal” that will hopefully surprise you, to be published in 2021. A few different events – including a geopoetic camp (july 23-25) will be a key part of this three weeks experience. We will be joined by important academic experts engaged in working towards a new vision of Geography and to keep the discussion open about the way we can keep the Earth at the centre of our public conversation and “earth writing” and political choices for the future. Follow us during our three weeks journey on the field through the Minett Unesco Biosphere (MUB) social media, on Facebook HERE and on Instagram HERE. In depth and thorough information is available on the official website, HERE.
